Nike works up a new Air Griffey Max 1 with a predominantly “Aqua” colorway treatment. The sportswear powerhouse recently debuted an edition in the same colorway but with a sparse involvement of the hue in the revival of the “Freshwater” offering.
Ken Griffey Jr. played in the MLB for 22 years as an outfielder and was inducted into the hall of fame in 2016 coinciding with the release of his signature sneaker. “Junior” went from being the first pick by the Seattle Mariners in the 1987 MLB draft to now owning stakes in the same team since the end of 2021. While he first kicked off his career with the Mariners, Griffey Jr. spent a few years with the Cincinnati Red and Chicago White Socks. By 2009, he went back to the Mariners before retiring the following year.
Similar to the former installment, this current offering incorporates the Seattle Mariners colorway with primarily “Aqua” nubuck overlays opening up to a white base on both sides of the shoe. A black ankle strap with the number “24” and forefoot Swoosh adds contrast to the shoe along with pops of white from the laces. Hints of red peep out from additional Swooshes found on the same ankle strap and vertical rendition on the heel. The white wavy midsole features crevices filled with Air units over a black rubber outsole.
Look out for the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 “Aqua” to release in the coming weeks at select retailers and via Nike for $170 USD.
