New Balance has found its latest collaborator in Olympic track and field star Sydney McLaughlin.
The athletic giant has teamed up with the Olympic gold medalist on a sharp new capsule collection. The New Balance x Sydney Signature Collection features sneakers and apparel directly inspired by McLaughlin’s career path, from her start as a young runner to present-day track and field Olympian. McLaughlin was heavily involved in the collection’s design process, from pieces’ fits to their styling.
“It’s a dream come true to create my first signature collection with New Balance, and to truly be part of the process from start to finish. This collection is all about staying true to yourself with pieces that inspire people to be authentically true to who they are,” said McLaughlin in a statement. “Many of the design elements reflect my growth as an athlete but more importantly as a human being, and I hope these looks inspire others to search inwards and show up as the best version of themselves.”
McLaughlin’s debut line features sleek cropped bras, T-shirts, tights, jackets and a hooded shrug in hues of black, white and dark purple. One notable standout is a sleeveless silver jumpsuit with a zip-up top and drawstring waistband. The pieces themselves are quite minimalist, though several tops feature New Balance’s “NB” logo and a written graphic that proclaims McLaughlin’s personal individualization motto, “Be The First You.” The line also includes two men’s pieces: a pair of woven black warm-up pants and a short-sleeved poncho, both featuring silver panels.
When it comes to shoes, the collection also boasts two new colorways of New Balance‘s popular 372 and FuelCell Propel RMX v2 styles. Both feature white and black uppers with coordinating laces and soles, as well as embroidery that states “Be The First You.” However, the 372’s signature N-shaped accents are cast in a deep gray-green tone, while the FuelCell’s are a thinner silhouette in ombre purple hues. Both smoothly pair with all of the collection’s clothing, rounding out the line with versatile pairs that are ideal for everyday wear and exercise.
While competing in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, the 21-year-old track star has made headlines after winning the gold medal for Team USA in the 400-meter hurdle competition. She’s now the world record holder for the event. Her collection with New Balance has been in the works since 2019, after she signed with the brand in 2018. McLaughlin has also been featured in New Balance’s recent “We Got Now” campaign,
