The Scandi cool crowd have been the first to navigate a physical fashion week setup ahead of September fashion month, as the world navigates a new post-lockdown normal amid COVID-19. Protective masks and social-distancing measures were the priority as a noticeably smaller, local crew pounded the pavements of Copenhagen during the first round of socially distanced SS21 shows and digital presentations on 10 August.
“It’s a lot of smiles, antibacterial hand gel and no hugs. We wear a mask inside and make sure we’re keeping a distance,” shares show-goer Janka Polliani, who is in the city for work. “It’s been a challenge for some brands to survive in the pandemic and I’m excited to finally see some creativeness again.”
Day one of shows saw husband and wife duo Nicolaj and Ditte Reffstrup hit the ground running, unveiling a socially distanced exhibition for Ganni’s SS21 collection, which included an upcycled and rentable capsule (created in collaboration with Levi’s) and the most covetable iterations of the smock dresses set to define late-summer 2020 style.
