35 of Dua Lipa’s Best Hairstyles, Haircuts, and Colors Over the Years

TBH, one of my favorite things about Dua Lipa—other than, IDK, her catchy as f*ck, Grammy-awarded music—is that she’s not afraid of a major hair transformation. Since coming onto the scene in 2015, the singer has amassed a highkey impressive roster of haircuts, colors, and styles and beauty lovers (aka me) have taken note. I mean, Dua has rocked everything from two-toned hair colors to baby bangs and mullets—and they’ve all been equally inspiring (like, inspiring enough to invest in some temporary hair color and a pair of shears…whoops). And since everyone could use a little hair inspo right now, I went ahead and rounded up every single one of her best looks. Keep scrolling for the ultimate hair evolution of Dua Lipa.

In the early years of her career, Dua Lipa’s hair was all about looong length and bendy, S-shaped waves (which, fun fact, you can totally recreate with a flat iron). At the 2016 Elle Style Awards in London, the singer parted her hair right down the middle and played up her natural shine.

A slight departure from her signature middle part, Dua Lipa played around with a deep side part and shorter, wavier ends in late 2016. Kinda cool how a small change in her part changed up her whole look, right?

Sry, but can we talk about how freakin’ cool Dua Lipa’s waist-length extensions were in 2017? Pro tip: Whip out a hair straightener and smooth a teeny bit of hair oil through your ends to recreate her sleek texture and shine.

At the Glamour Women of the Year Awards, Dua smoothed her hair into a sleek middle part and a low bun at the nape of her neck. And, TBH, I love how this style from 2017 is still one of her go-tos in 2021 (more on that in a bit).

A lob haircut with tiny, subtle bends was the star of Dua’s beauty look at the BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards in late 2017. It was basically the perfect match for the singer’s signature makeup look: bold brows, warm contouring, and neutral lips.

The easiest way to add a little style to a grown-out lob haircut? Flip in your ends with a flat iron à la Dua Lipa. The singer’s hairstyle at the 2018 Brit Awards was the best of both worlds: soft and subtle, but also pretty glam.

Later that year, Dua showed up to the 2018 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas with a shorter, side-parted haircut (which, again, paired pretty freakin’ perfectly with her dark brows and black eyeliner).

In Cannes, France, Dua Lipa showed up to a November 2018 red carpet with a classic celeb hairstyle: the faux-wet look. Psst: A dollop of pomade is key to recreating this style—and this guide is a great place to start if you need a few pointers.

Dua went back to her signature look towards the end of 2018 with a slight twist—her chin-grazing lob had a soft angle to it with longer pieces in the front. A cute tuck behind her ear finished off her look at Variety’s 2018 Hitmakers Brunch.

A bit different than her signature sleek look, Dua Lipa walked the 2019 Pre-Grammy Gala red carpet wearing a romantic updo with curled tendrils. Down to recreate this one yourself? Try swapping your barrel iron for a curling wand—it’ll make it way easier to create that soft bend.

It goes without saying that Dua Lipa showed TF up at the 2019 Met Gala. The singer’s camp-themed hair featured major volume and length, accompanied by the perfect cat eye, spidery lashes, and brushed-up brows.

Another Dua classic, the singer combed her hair into a super-blunt middle part and a glossy low bun for the amfAR Cannes Gala in 2019. IMO, tucking her hair behind her ear was also a genius way to show off her glitzy spider earring.

In a move that surprised everyone on the red carpet, Dua Lipa arrived at the Yves Saint Lauren fragrance launch in 2019 wearing thick, eye-skimming bangs and blunt mid-length ends. I mean, talk about unrecognizable.

October 2019 marked Dua Lipa’s biggest hair transformation to date: this two-toned blunt lob. The singer’s combination of jet-black ends and warm, honey-blonde highlights proved that reverse ombré hair is pretty effing iconic.

Throughout 2019, Dua continued to show off the versatility of her new hair color, as evidenced by her sleek bun at the MTV EMAs in November. Slight grow-out at her roots made the look even cooler.

Dua Lipa gave off Ariana-Grande vibes with a high-ass ponytail at the 2019 American Music Awards in LA. Her roots now totally grown-out, Dua had plenty of cool contrast between her natural hair and her blonde extensions.

Later that year, Dua upped her hair-color game by wearing a few rainbow extensions and space buns while visiting Japan. Anyone else tempted to grab some temporary dye rn…? No, yeah, same.

Days later, Dua showed up to the Mnet Asian Music Awards with super-contrasted roots and bendy waves. The best thing about this hair color? Since grow-out is key, you don’t need to book regular touch-up appointments with your colorist (aka it’s not nearly as high-maintenance as traditional blonde hair).

At the beginning of 2020, Dua’s blonde hair became a brighter, warmer shade of honey—which, TBH, still looked just as pretty against her jet-black roots. At the Pre-Grammy Gala in January, the singer walked the red carpet with this cute top knot.

Remember Dua’s side part in 2016? The singer channeled a newer, waiver version of the style in January 2020. Make sure you have a lightweight wave spray or cream on hand before attempting this one yourself (it’ll help you get that lived-in texture).

Arguably one of her most epic red-carpet hairstyles, Dua’s 2020 Grammy Awards look featured a super-tight top knot, a blunt middle part, and two loose, face-framing pieces. Paired with powder-blue eyeshadow and neutral lipstick, the vibe felt very ’90s in the best way possible.

In February 2020, it looked like Dua Lipa got a choppy, mullet-like haircut with baby bangs. As the singer later revealed on her IG stories though, it was actually bleach breakage that she decided to “roll” with. Not a bad way to make the best of a shitty situation.

After growing out some of her breakage in 2020, Dua revealed her latest hair transformation on Instagram: a black base with bubble-gum pink roots. Like most people in quarantine, Dua even did the dye job herself (see pic two for proof).

Aaand it was back to chocolate brown just a few months later in July. Softer, lighter highlights around Dua’s roots (almost like a lowkey balayage) made the look super pretty for summer.

Thick, side-swept bangs and super-dark brown dye were the name of the game for Dua’s beauty look in August 2020. A high ponytail at the top of her head was the perfect way to show off her style on IG.

Wait, sorry, who said side parts weren’t cool? Dua tried one out again in 2020, proving side parts look especially awesome wtih glossy waves and a warm, chocolate-y brown base.

Her 4th (!!!) dramatic hair color change of 2020, Dua Lipa played around with red and black dye and (ahem, perfectly) grown-out bangs in June. Sensing a theme here? Two hairs colors are always better than one.

Later in the fall, Dua traded out her multi-colored look for her classic chocolate-brown base and a pair of eye-skimming bangs. Even though it was just a temporary style, she made a convincing case for breaking out some shears and trying a DIY cut.

I mean, how cute are these long pigtail braids Dua Lipa wore in October 2020? Don’t forget to save this idea the next time you’re in a styling rut (it’s an easy style for lazy days).

A pair of thick bangs swooped over Dua’s forehead in this Instagram pic from November. The whole look was tied together with a high ponytail and plenty of shine.
