I was once again preparing to debunk yet another TikTok makeup trend. You know how it goes: every other day someone claims that they have a clever hack that will make your routine easier, and everyone rushes to test it out. This time around, users are blending white concealers on their undereye area to create an illuminating effect that goes further than just a highlighting concealer. The hack has been all over the site for a few weeks now, with many folks in awe at how flattering the end result looks.
In December 2021, New York Cty-basedTikTok user Thiri posted an attempt at the technique, which you can see here. This video became immensely popular and has been referenced by many other users attempting the trend. As I am writing this, the video has over 3.7 million views and has been liked over 628,000 times. Thiri previously told Allure that she first saw TikToker Halen Rodriguez try it out, and wanted to see what it would look like on herself.
The trend itself is fairly simple: before applying your usual concealer, blend out white concealer on your undereye area. Thiri swiped L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer in Highlighter underneath her eye, adding more product toward her nose area and a thinner line near the outer corner of her eye. Then, she blended it with a concealer closer to her shade before revealing her final.

New York-based makeup artist Tommy Napoli says that the white concealer hack can be useful to folks looking for a “transformative ‘Instaglam,’ bright Kardashian-undereye look.”
“I think people are trying the white concealer hack because white can add a lot of opacity to our coverage, and also light reflection, seemingly camouflaging/masking the skin underneath and bouncing out light from shadows and bags,” he shares. For those who use two different concealer shades in their routine, this can be an alternate way to get that brightening effect.
