This Itty-Bitty Trend Is Taking Over the Streets Of Paris Right Now

The men’s shows are in full effect in Paris, which means one thing: the streets outside are full of fashion-clad attendees, all wearing the trends that matter for 2022. This season, in addition to platform Crocs and balaclavas, the shortest of hemlines appear to be reigning supreme among the street style crowd. Be they in the form of micro-miniskirts or barely-there dresses, pants appear to be taking a back seat to pieces that offer little defense against the elements, despite the winter weather.

It comes as no surprise that shrinking hems are such a hit outside of this season’s shows given how prevalent they were on the runways last September. Seen at Miu Miu, Missoni, Versace, Nensi Dojaka, and more S/S 22 shows, mini dresses and skirts were among the most popular trends of all of Fashion Month. So, of course they’d find their way onto the street style scene.

But one question remains: how are Paris Fashion Week-goers styling their minis while maintaining some semblance of warmth? See how it’s done ahead.

After a successful run on the S/S 22 runways, the academic underachiever trend is going strong on the streets in Paris, with untucked Oxford shirts, loose ties, and super-short pleated skirts finding much success in Paris. Notice the tights-and-socks combo, a genius hack for wearing skirts in the cold weather.

This mini is giving major Serena vibes.

Meanwhile, this one’s giving Blair.

Swap out the sweater for a boxy button-down and a tie for the fashion version of an after-school look.

To offset the cold weather, Barbara Malewicz paired her printed miniskirt with knee-high boots, a chunky Gucci scarf, and an oversize track jacket. Nice.

The tiniest of all.

This print is such a mood-enhancer.

Who doesn’t love a check print?

Paola Locatelli made donning a miniskirt and a sweater sans coat look completely appropriate for the middle of January, thanks to her thick, peekaboo socks and rugged boots.

No frills necessary.

This quilted fabric is extremely luxe.

Tip: by opting for a wool mini, your entire look is going to automatically become that much toastier.

Though they rarely get the attention they deserve, black tights are a must in the winter, especially if you want to wear miniskirts like the fashion crowd in Paris. Tall boots and a thick shacket won’t hurt either.

Forget little black dresses—2022 is the year of the little black skirt.

Or better yet, the little black leather skirt.

Yes please!

Toss on a pair of fishnets and an oversize blazer and just like that, your miniskirt goes from super summer-y to perfect for a day of winter fashion shows in Paris.

How much do you want to bet that we’ll see Maddy from Euphoria (played by Alexa Demie) donning this skirt in Season 2?

Just wait until you see the matching corset.

The perfect partner for all of your oversize blazers.

Is it 2022 or 2002? Who knows by the looks of this micro-mini, spotted on a show-goer this week in Paris. If you needed any additional proof that the Y2K aesthetic is back, the outfit on the far right should be more than enough to convince you.

Remember when everyone wore these super-short denim skirts?

I must’ve owned ten skirts just like this in middle school.

I still think skorts were one of fashion’s most genius inventions.
