The Malaysian weather’s humidity isn’t exactly the kind of energy we need in our lives to maintain our perfectly-created curls. But not all hope is lost, according to OUAI.
We know the feeling all too well. You spend an hour painstakingly sectioning out your hair to curl it, getting in an arm workout at the same time. You brush it out to loosen the curls and everything looks on point. But then, you step out of the house, and all hope is lost. Within the hour, you look on in dismay as your perfectly tousled hair begin losing its curls and going limp. That’s our Southeast Asian humidity for you.
But with every problem comes a solution. Not all hope is lost — all you need to do to combat this is follow some calculated steps. We’ve got all the tips you need from haircare brand OUAI’s Director of Education, Diana Pratasiewicz.
How does humidity affect our styled hair?
Humidity means there’s a significant amount of moisture in the air. Unlike a desert where the air is dry, our location in the rainforest area is the opposite end of the spectrum where there is moisture everywhere.
Hair and humidity are definitely not friends — arch enemies are more like it. If the hair cuticle is open the moisture from humidity can penetrate the hair shaft causing frizz and flyaways.
