Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY Subverts Tradition for Fred Perry Collaboration

British youth subcultures and punk notions frequent throughout both Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY and Fred Perry‘s design DNA, so in honor of this, the two labels have come together on an exclusive capsule collection.

Some of Fred Perry’s most iconic pieces have been reimagined under Jeffrey’s subverted lens, but throughout there is a recognition of their shared love for tradition. For example, tartan checks frequent throughout the collaboration, adorning everything from a tennis skirt to cardigans, polo shirts, shorts, and the LOVERBOY staple, the beret.

However, this is combined with the designer’s signature air of DIY flamboyance, seeing the bomber jacket split into various sections and types of tartan check for a reconstructed aesthetic. More of Jeffrey’s aesthetic is told through the Aran knit jumper, which combines a traditional cream base with a deep V-neck red-and-blue striped design that incorporates Fred Perry’s signature laurel wreath motif, while a barrel bag has been studded as a nod to the punk, nu-rave, and indie scenes that inspire Jeffrey.

The collaboration will play out in three parts, kicking off this month via a video that sees James Potter from Walt Disco and Lucia Fairfull from Lucia & the Best Boys playing creatures exploring Glasgow — Jeffrey’s hometown — for the first time.

The lookbook and short film can be seen above, while the first drop from the collaborative collection can be bought online and in Fred Perry stores now.

In case you missed it, check out HYPEBEAST’s interview with Bianca Saunders ahead of her Farah collaboration debut.
